It’s the start of March, so here’s our updated list of the local (aka Northern California) competition schedules for Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Crossfit, Races, and “Other Fitness-ish” Type competitions. I will continue to update these lists every month here on the Cap City Strength Blog.

Olympic Weightlifting Competitions

April 14th – 2018 NorCal Open hosted by Delta Barbell in Brentwood, CA.
April 19th-22nd – National University & Under 25 Championships at Weber State University in Ogden, UT. (Qualifying Totals and Registration)
April 21st – Mario Martinez Memorial Classic hosted by Salinas Valley Barbell in Salinas, CA.
April 22nd – 2018 Marin Open hosted by Marin Heacy Athletics in San Rafael, CA.
May 5th – PWA Masters Championships hosted by Crossfit Excel in Manteca, CA. (Lifters Ages 35+)
May 6th – Money in the Bank hosted by Standard Strength in Campbell, CA.
May 19th – CTS Wine Country Classic hosted by CTA Fitness and Performance in Napa, CA.
May 24th-27th – 2018 National Championships in Overland Park, Kansas. (Qualifying Totals and Registration)
July 21st – Silicon Valley Open hosted by Crossfit San Jose in Campbell, CA.
July 26th-29th – American Open Series 2 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. (Qualifying Totals and Registration)
September 13th-16th – American Open Series 3 in Las Vegas, NV. (Qualifying Totals and Registration)
December 6th-9th – American Open Finals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Qualifying Totals and Registration)

April 14th – No Limit Best of the West Classic at Golden Valley High school in Merced, CA.
April 28th – Fresno Open at the Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center in Fresno, CA.
May 5th-6th – Central Coast Open hosted by Headstrong Fitness in San Luis Obispo, CA.
May 12th – USAPL Barbells on the Boardwalk hosted by Santa Cruz Strength in Santa Cruz, CA. (This is a USAPL meet)
May 19th-20th – Old Skool Iron Classic hosted by Old Skool Iron in Vacaville, CA.
May 26th – USAPL Boss of NorCal 6 hosted by Boss Barbell Club in Mountain View, CA. (This is a USAPL meet)
July 12th-15th – USPA National Powerlifting Championships at Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
July 21st-22nd – San Jose Fit Expo at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA.
August 4th – Grizz’s Power House Gym Powerlifting Championsihp hosted by Grizz’s Power House Gym in Tulare, CA.
September 15th – USAPL SCS Surf City Classic II hosted by Santa Cruz Strength in Santa Cruz, CA. (This is a USAPL meet)
September 22nd – Iron Office Powerlifting Championship hosted by The Iron Office in Fresno, CA.
November 8th-11th – IPL World Powerlifting Championships at Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
November 17th – USAPL Boss of NorCal 7 hosted by Boss Barbell Club in Mountain View, CA. (This is a USAPL meet)
The vast majority of these powerlifting meets are USPA meets, as our current competing athletes are members of that powerlifting association. However, I have recently began adding more of the USAPL meets to this list, they are called out as such in their descriptions above.
March 17th – Get Lucky Competition hosted by Pulse Fitness in Roseville, CA. This is an individual competition with RX and scaled divisions. The winning RX male and female athletes will compete for a Concept2 Rower
March 31st – The Bat Cave Games hosted by Crossfit Natomas in Sacramento, CA. This is a same-sex couples competition with RX and Scaled divisions. Cost $140.
April 7th – Rookie Rumble hosted by Artillery Outlaws in Vacaville, CA. This is an individual beginner competition. Cost $65.
April 14th – West Coast Functional Fitness Competition at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. This is a mixed-gender partner competition with open, intermediate, and rookie divisions. Cost $110-120.
April 21st – O-Town Partner Throwdown hosted by Oroville Crossfit in Oroville, CA. This is a same-sex partner competition with beginner, intermediate, and masters divisions. Cost $110.
April 28th – Santa Smackdown hosted by Crossfit Lodi in Lodi, CA. This is a 2 male and 2 female team competition with RX, Scaled, and Masters divisions. Cost $220.
June 2nd – Summertime Showdown hosted by ASAP Fitness in Stockton, CA. This is an individual competition with RX and Scaled divisions. Cost $80.
June 23rd – Brethren Throwdown hosted by Brethren Crossfit in Morgan Hill, CA. This is an individual competition with RX, Scaled, and Masters divisions. Cost $115.
August 25th – BoxCar Summer Sizzle hosted by BoxCar Crossfit in Roseville, CA. Details TBD.
Crossfit competitions tend to get scheduled/posted online within a month of being held and fill up quick. I find that most competitions are listed on WOD Rocket but some gyms simply post their competition info on their websites. You can also keep an eye on Facebook for upcoming Crossfit competitions. And, if you see one coming up that I haven’t posted yet, feel free to message me and I will make an announcement on the Cap City Strength Facebook page.
