Friday – Competition Update (August 2017)

Hey All!

It’s the start of August, so here’s our updated list of the local (aka California) competition schedules for Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, and Crossfit. Competitions in RED are new to the list. Competitions in BLUE are competitions that Cap City Strength members will be competing in, so put them in your calendar! I will continue to update these lists every month here on the Cap City Strength Blog.

If you’re interested in participating in any of these Olympic Weightlifting or Crossfit competitions, talk to either Coach Sean or Coach Ant.

 

Olympic Weightlifting Competitions

August 5th – Redwood Empire Championships at La Plaza Park in Cotati, CA.

August 13th – Tommy Kono Memorial 2 hosted by Midtown Strength and Conditioning in Sacramento, CA.

September 2nd – Don Wilson Golden west Open hosted by Delta Barbell in Brentwood, CA.

September 16th – 2017 Marin Open hosted by Marin Heavy Athletics in San Rafael, CA.

September 24th– California State Championships in Clovis, CA.

September 30th – Hassel Free American Record Breaker at the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation in Elk Grove, CA.

October 8th – Hassel Free Fall Breaker at Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco, CA.

October 21st – Max’s Gym Open hosted by Max’s Gym in Emeryville, CA.

The PWA website will have the registration information for all of these competitions.

 

Powerlifting Competitions

 

August 5th – Mid-Cal Powerlifting Championship hosted by Grizz’s Power House Gym in Tulare, CA.

August 12th – Lake Tahoe Classic hosted by Crossfit 6250 in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

August 12th – Kratos NZ Open hosted by Kratos Gyms NZ in Foothill Ranch, CA.

August 19th – Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Iron Jungle in Lancaster, CA.

August 26th-27th – Anaheim Fit Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.

September 2nd – Sierra Nevada Cup hosted by Ironworks Athletic Club in Grass Valley, CA.

September 9th-10th – APS Open hosted by Althetik Performance Studio in Elk Grove, CA.

September 23rd – Lift for Hope hosted by Old Skool Iron in Elk Grove, CA

September 30th – IPL World Bench and Deadlift Championships at the San Diego Marriot Mission Valley in San Diego, CA.

October 7th – Barron of the Peninsula hosted by Crossfit San Mateo in San Mateo, CA.

October 7th-8th – Central California Open hosted by Next Step Crossfit in Bakersfield, CA.

October 8th – Southern California Open hosted by Metroflex Gym in Long Beach, CA.

October 14th – DCS Fall Open hosted by California Elite Training Center in San Diego, CA.

October 21st – Jacked O’ween Open hosted by Santa Cruz Strength in Santa Cruz, CA.

October 22nd – Conejo Valley Open hosted by Athletix in Westlake Village, CA.

November 2nd-4th – IPL Worlds at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

November 11th – Monger Mayhem hosted by Iron Mongers Gym in Vista, CA.

November 18th – Sonoma County Open hosted by Chalk it Up Strength in Cotati, CA.

December 2nd – Dominate the Hill Powerlifting Championship hosted by XCell Fitness Academy in Signal Hill, CA.

December 9th – Holiday Festival of Strength hosted by KO Gym in Ventura, CA.

The vast majority of these powerlifting meets are USPA meets, as our current competing athletes are members of that powerlifting association. However, I have recently began adding more of the USAPL meets to this list.

 

Crossfit Competitions

 

August 5th – UCFP’s Summer Showdown hosted by Iron Warehouse in Newark, CA. This is an RX and scaled individual competition. Cost $120.

August 26th – Moxie Madness at the Dublin Civic Center in Dublin, CA. This is an RX, scaled, and masters team competition. Cost$ 350.

August 26th – Central Valley Thowdown at the International Agri Center in Tulare, CA. This is a coed partner competition with RX, scaled, and masters divisions. Cost $75.

September 9th – WOD for a Cause Throwdown II hosted by Crossfit Diligence in San Jose, CA. This is a same sex 3 person team competition. Cost $300.

September 23rd – Sundown September Smackdown hosted by Sundown Crossfit in Santa Clara, CA. This is a team competition with mens, womens, and masters divisions. Both scaled and RX. Cost: $120.

September 30th – 2017 Caffeine and Kilos Invitational at the Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation in Elk Grove, CA. This is a 2 men and 2 women team competition with RX, scaled and masters divisions. Cost $200.

October 7th – Barbell Rodeo 17.3 at the Los Banos Fairgrounds. This is an individual competition with RX, masters, youth, and 4 person team divisions. Cost $65 (individual) $200 (team).

October 7th – NorCal Fitness Throwdown in Redding, CA. This is a 4 person team competition with one division. Cost $200.

October 7th – WOD Wars V at the International Agriculture Center in Tulare, CA. This is an individual and team competition with RX, scaled, and masters divisions. Cost: $75 for individuals, $250 for team.

October 21st – West Coast Championships 2017 at the Concord Pavillion in Concord, CA. This is an individual competition broken down by age divisions. Cost $75.

October 21st – Frankenwod hosted by Crossfit San Jose in San Jose, CA. This is a mixed gender partner competition with RX, scaled, and master divisions. Cost $169.

October 21st – Courage Games hosted by Courage Performance in Belmont, CA. This is an RX only individual competition. Cost $50.

October 28th – Halloween Partner Throwdown hosted by Croffit AOF in Ripon, CA. This is a same sex partner competition with RX and scaled divisions. Cost $100.

November 4th – Pumpkins and Pilgrims Throwdown II hosted by CFT Fitness in Tracy, CA. This is an individual competition with RX and scaled divisions. Cost $140.

Crossfit competitions tend to get scheduled/posted online within a month of being held and fill up quick. I find that most competitions are listed on WOD Rocket but some gyms simply post their competition info on their websites. You can also keep an eye on Facebook for upcoming Crossfit competitions. And, if you see one coming up that I haven’t posted yet, feel free to message me and I will make an announcement on the Cap City Strength Facebook page.
